The Last Quiet Thing
A friend sent this wonderful article to me the other day, and it really resonated:
This watch costs twelve dollars. It weighs twenty-one grams. It has an alarm that sounds like a microwave in another room. It has told time the same way since 1989.
It doesn't know my heart rate. It has no opinions about whether I've stood up enough today. It will never need a firmware update.
When the battery dies in seven years, I'll press in a new one with a paperclip. That will be the entirety of my obligation to it.

Trying Something New
I'm going to try something new: set up a new blog. I've had a blog in some form or another since roughly 2000, first on Movable Type, then on Tumblr1, then on WordPress, then on Jekyll, then on WordPress again. I never really liked WordPress, though. Too much bloat, too much stuff I don't need, and the basic things I wanted didn't exist.
I discovered Bear a few days ago and I think it'd be fun to just give it a try. It feels old school in the best possible way, returning to a pre-social media era of the Internet.
Who knows if I'll actually post anything here. I've basically stopped posting anything online, but it'd be nice to have a place to share things I find interesting outside of the cacophony of social media.
In my very humble opinion, Tumblr circa 2008-2010 was an excellent blogging platform.↩
