Supermail Privacy Policy
Supermail Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-10-29
Supermail is a personal email client for the Mac, made by John Debay. This policy explains what information Supermail handles and what it does with it. The short version: your mail stays on your Mac, and your Gmail data is not sold or shared.
What Supermail accesses
When you sign in with Google, Supermail asks for access to your Gmail account. It uses that access to read:
- your Gmail messages, threads, and labels,
- the names and photos of your contacts, which it shows as sender avatars, and
- your Google account email address and basic profile.
It also makes changes you ask for, such as archiving, replying to, or sending a message.
How your information is used
Gmail data is used only to show and manage your mail inside the Supermail app. Your mail is stored on your Mac. It is not sent to John Debay or to any server operated by Supermail, with the exception of the optional Supermail Web Service described below.
Optional Supermail Web Service
Supermail Web Service is an optional online service that works with the app. Today it is used for cloud snooze. Snoozing a conversation hides it until a time you pick, and the service lets snoozed mail come back on time even when your Mac is asleep or off. If you use it, it stores only:
- your account email address,
- the IDs of the snoozed threads and the times they should wake, and
- your Google sign-in in encrypted form (a refresh token), which lets it return the snoozed mail to your inbox at the right moment.
Supermail Web Service never stores the content of your messages: no subjects, bodies, attachments, or recipients. If it is ever used for anything else, this policy will be updated to say so before that use starts.
Images and logos from senders
Like any mail client, Supermail may load remote images and sender brand logos from the servers of the people and companies who send you mail. Those servers can see your IP address and that a request was made.
No selling or sharing
Supermail does not sell or share your Gmail data with third parties and does not use it for advertising.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Supermail’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy , including the Limited Use requirements. Supermail is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google.
Deleting your data
You can remove your data at any time:
- Sign out of the account in Supermail.
- Revoke Supermail’s access in your Google Account permissions .
- Email john@debay.net and any data held by Supermail Web Service for your account will be deleted.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. When it is, the effective date above will change.
